Data from Visual Foxpro tables to SQL Server tables

Aug 19 2012 12:00AM by coretechsanjay

Hi,

This is my second post since this morning. I am at Getting started with SSIS - Part 5: Data Flow Task.

I have a question, I have data in Foxpro tables which I need to migrate to SQL Server. Might be this is early to ask.

Do I need to convert my data from Foxpro Tables to MS Excel first and then to MS SQL SERVER using SSIS OR
I can consider Visual Foxpro as a Data Flow Source using OLE DB Source?

Your comments will be helpful to me when find time. If this issue has been discussed earlier or will be discussed in next Parts, please discard this Question.

I am thankful to you.

Regards,
Sanjay

  • You can load data from FOXPRO tables directly using the OLEDB Provider for FOXPRO. You can install the driver from here (if not already done). When creating the data flow task, pick an OLDEB connection object and select "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro" as the driver.

  • I downloaded and installed but when I go to ODBC Data Source Administrator and Add Creating New Data Source the following message appears upon selecting [Microsoft FoxPro VFP Driver (*.dbf).

you must first install the current version of the visual foxpro odbc driver

When I go to MS site, its mentioned that post 2.6 version ODBC driver not avail.

I have Visual FoxPro 9.0 SP2 installed on my machine.

Can you please throw some more light on this to resolution.

    Please suggest.

    Regards, Sanjay

  • Sanjay,

The URL I shared installs the OLEDB driver for Visual Foxpro, not the ODBC driver. Start a new SSIS project and place a data flow task into the designer. Add an OLEDB data source and check if you see the OLEDB driver for Visual Foxpro listed there.

  • Thank you Jacob, I did as you wrote and I see that OLEDB driver for Visual Foxpro listed there.
