New - Top bloggers listing on the blog module

May 1 2012 12:00AM by webmaster

We just added an enhancement to the Blog module to display the list of TOP 5 bloggers based on the number of followers as well as the number of total Likes they received.

most popular bloggers at beyondrelational.com

Most Followed

This is based on the number of followers your blog has. If you are a blogger, you can increase the number of followers by inviting your BR/Gmail/Other friends using the Invite Friends option explained in this post.

Most Liked

This is based on the total likes all the posts within the blog has received. If a blog has only two posts, and the first post is liked by 9 readers and the second by 3 people, the total number of likes will be calculated as 12.

Why not views?

We decided NOT to highlight page views, because a higher number of views does not necessarily show the quality of the post. A controversial post may have more views than a post that is better in quality. So a post having a very high number of page views need not necessarily be a good post. So we decided to consider the likes and other voting options provided on the post to decide the quality of the posts.

Share your thoughts

We are eager to hear from you, what you think about these. Would you like to see this on other modules as well? Do you like to see top 10 instead of top 5? What else do you like to see around this?

  • Hello,

Maybe i have a problem with my old XP SP3 + IE8, or i have forgotten to enable something : just in the right part next the list of the 5 most followed and 5 most liked blogs, i can see a new "columns" included 8 liked, 4 liked , 7 liked but the rest seems like to be rubbed off. If my settings are not good, please could you help me to solve this small problem ? Thanks beforehand

  • Can you send a screen shot to webmaster at beyondrelational.com so that we get a clear idea of how it looks like?

  • May be the confusion is added by the way we cropped the image. Basically we took a screen shot of http://beyondrelational.com/modules/2/default.aspx?s=stream&tab=posts and cropped to show the area that displays the listing of most liked/followed blogs. The columns you see on the right is a piece from the post listing that you can see in the above URL.

Still we wait for your screenshot to see if there is something unusual.

  • Hello,

I have checked the link you provided in the webmaster's last comment. You are right. I had only to scroll and i retrieve what i am seeing. A completely stupid question : how can i send you the screenshot ? If i am using insert image, i have to provide an url but i have no site to put the screenshot. A little remark : as i am planning to upgrade my old XP SP3 towards Windoxs 7 Ultimate in September, the settings of my computer is a "temporary" one and i prefer not to modify it as i know that the upgrade is possible ( for the moment )

Have a nice day and thanks for your excellent site

  • Usually we press PRINT SCREEN and then open MS PAINT and press CTRL+V which will past the captured screen into the image editor. This can then be saved into a JPG/PNG format (BMP will be really big and hard to send by email).

The original comment suggested you send us the image by email (as an attachment). You are right, it is not simple to upload an image currently. If you have a blog at beyondrelational.com, you have an option to upload images. Once the image is uploaded, the URL can be shared.

interestingly, we are working on a new section at beyondrelational.com which allows people (especially bloggers or other people who wants to share a screen shot or image) quickly upload and share images. This will be out soon and we will make an announcement when ready.

  • The problem is : i have no blog at beyondrelational.com because i am sure that i am sure that my "speciality" (SMO) will interest nobody ( and i have a really so poor english that i should ask to someone else to reread my article and send my errors to eliminate them. For the moment, i don't want to be a burden for other people). I am keeping an eye on your idea to allow to upload files, images on a shared section. This is a very useful idea !. So thanks beforehand. I am considering that your explanation included in your 2nd post is the best one ( thanks for it ) and i regreat to give the alarm for an unexisting problem. Thanks for your replies and many advices you gave me. I have really appreciatied.
