Mar 21 2013 12:00AM by Paresh Prajapati

This week, I resolved one issue which I received continuously which is noting but exactly displayed in post title.  The issue occurred  when I ran ssis package with batch file or scheduled job and same error message raised.

Source: Start Execute SQL Task
Description: Failed to acquire connection "<Connection Name>". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.

  • Hi Paresh,

Did you have Excel connections in your Packages? You will see this error for Excel connections generally. Another reason for this happening could be that the User running the job does not have the necessary privileges.

  • Hi Sudeep,

SSIS package does not have any excel connection. I just changed it to 32 bit version and it works fine. So i do not think it is issue with user privileges to run that package from job or batchfile.

  • Ok makes sense. However it would be nice if you add that this helped you, and this is not a blanket approach that can be taken for all the cases with the same error.

  • The problem is you have the 32-bit provider installed, but not the 64-bit provider. By forcing the package into 32-bit mode, it's able to communicate with the provider.

  • @Marc,

Some other packages are running on 64-bit provider too in same machine. I was getting this issue for only for one package among them.

Are all the packages running under the same security context?
