User Defined Data Types

Question

Why do we need user defined data types?

Answer

User defined data types are used when a few tables need to use it. It is based off the system datatypes and can be more specific. For example, SSN data type could be varchar(11). If they are created in the Model data base, every database that is created after that has them.
