Question

Recently in an interview, I faced this question What is difference between user control and custom controls?

Answer

Difference between user control and custom control lies in usage of these.

Custom Control: To change the control behaviour, custom control can be used. Eg: To add a look-up items to a textbox, a custom textbox can be created as a separate control.

User Control: When certain functionality is used across multiple pages, we can wrap it inside a user control and this user control can be used in multiple pages. Thus this gives re-usability. Eg: A navigational items control, which can be used in multiple pages can be wrapped inside a user control.
