SQL Server - Backing up Profiler Trace templates

Nov 13 2011 7:30AM by Nakul Vachhrajani

Customized Profiler Trace templates can be backed up - you don't need to recreate them every time the IT guy formats or upgrades your workstation.

All one needs to do is export the template from the Profiler by going to File -> Templates -> Export Template. Backup the template file and then import it using File -> Templates -> Import Template

For those who are of the curious kind, custom profiler traces are stored at: C:\Users\<<<user name>>>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SQL Profiler\11.0\Templates\Microsoft SQL Server\110

(*I used SQL 2012 for my little test, and hence the path refers "110". In case of SQL 2008 and other releases, the path may be a bit different).
