"self - service reporting" and "ad hoc reporting" terms are sometimes used interchangeably

Both mean that an user could generate their own reports and they are shielded from underlying data infrastructure. This empowers end-users as they do not need to always ask IT for help..

A one-line statement about powerview: Delight users with an immersive ad-hoc experience that enables faster insight.

Note the use of word "ad-hoc", also sometimes referred to as "self-service"

Ad-hoc reporting implies a single user, working alone, can generate their own reports.

Self-service reporting extends ad-hoc reporting where one user can create reports than can be shared by multiple users.

They are not necessarily interchangable.
