TSQL Challenges for Beginners

What are "TSQL Challenges For Beginners"?

TSQL Challenges for Beginners (TCB) are another set of challenges rolling out of beyondrelational.com under the SQL Server Challenges channel. This will be close to TSQL Challenges but will differ in a number of ways.

How do “TSQL Challenges for Beginners” differ from “TSQL Challenges”

TSQL Challenges for Beginners (TCB) differ from the other popular challenge series TSQL Challenges in a number of ways.

Differences in Complexity

TSQL Challenges for Beginners (TCB) are relatively less complex than the problems presented in TSQL Challenges.

Differences in Target Audience

TSQL Challenges are meant for TSQL Server experts, where as TCB is meant for beginners and intermediate level TSQL developers who wants to fine tune their TSQL skills.

Differences in Goals

The Goal of TSQL Challenges is to help people enhance their SET based query writing skills by solving complex TSQL problems using a SET based approach. Solving a TSQL Challenge is an achievement and one should be proud of being able to do that. The Goal of TCB is to help a TSQL developer evaluate himself/herself and verify that he/she has a fair amount of query writing skills.

Differences in the impact on SQL Server Developers

If a SQL Server developer is not able to solve a TSQL Challenge, there is nothing to worry. It is not expected that he/she should be able to solve every problem presented there. If he/she can solve it, it is an achievement. If one cannot solve it, one can pick it up from the the solutions and train oneself.

If a SQL Server developer is not able to solve a TCB challenge, then there is certainly something to worry. Being a TSQL developer he/she is expected to solve TSQL challenges at the level of complexity presented in TCB. So, if some one is not able to solve one of the TCB challenges, it is time to rush, strengthen the fundamentals and train oneself with the missing skills.
